Two first edition collections of stories and essays from Stone and Kimball's literary magazine, written by a host of noted authors and with a lithographical cover. The first edition, with the eight page publisher's catalogues dated October 1896 to the rear. Two volumes. In the publisher's original cloths with lithographic colour illustrations to the boards. These are rare examples of lithographic covers by Herbert S. Stone and Co.  These works feature a collection of essays and stories from the 'Chap-Book' by a host of noted writers, such as Neith Boyce, Katherine Bates, Edmund Gosse and John Burroughs. The 'Chap Book' was an American literary magazine published by Stone and Kimball and edited by Herbert S. Stone. The essays discuss and review a number of literary authors and works, such as Henrik Ibsen's play about a father and his disabled son called 'Little Eyolf' and Max Nordau's 'Degeneration', a two volume social criticism in which Nordau criticises degenerate art and the effects of rapid urbanization on the human body. The stories include 'In the Garden' by Neith Boyce, a story about a women who sneaks into a mysterious garden owned by monks. In the publisher's original cloths. Externally generally smart with marks to the boards, bumping to the extremities and slight rubbing to the joints and extremities to both with fading to the boards, a slight lean and small closed tears to the head and tail of the spine to 'Stories&apos. Front hinges starting. Internally firmly bound with lightly age toned and clean pages. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
